Can You Make Money Playing Slot Machines?
We all dream of hitting that one huge, life changing, progressive slots jackpot. As unlikely as that might be, there are actually ways to make money playing the slots. Maybe not progressive jackpot money, but still something to justify the hours you spend playing other than just fun. Here are a few key points to remember to win money in slots:
1. The higher the denomination you bet, the better your odds of winning. Most people who play slots go right to the penny slots — it’s cheap and fun and you don’t risk a lot. If you’re just looking for entertainment, that’s a completely justifiable move, but if you’re looking to win, bet more per spin. According to the Nevada Gaming Control Board’s Gaming Revenue Report for December 2012, betting $25 per spin gives the player the greatest chance of winning. The following chart is from page 6 of the NGC’s report:
2. The simpler the game, the better the odds. Everyone is drawn to the big flashy lights of the new machines that have progressive jackpots that keep getting bigger and bigger. Because of the far greater competition on these machines, your odds of being the winner are much less. Additionally, the fancy games with big signs and video screens tend to not pay as well as the simple games. Again, if you’re just looking for a good time, then the flashy games will give you that, but if you’re looking to win, skip them.
3. Similarly to number two, slots with smaller jackpots will also draw less attention and thus less competition for you. You won’t be playing for as much, say $10,000 compared to $100,000, but winning will still feel plenty good.
4. Set a maximum amount of your bankroll you are prepared to lose. It’s extremely important that you stick to this amount and never exceed it out of anger or frustration. This will really take a lot of self control and discipline but you never want to chase the money you’ve lost.
